Married in a Day

Folkston has a long history of welcoming visitors who want to get married in a day. The Inn at Folkston hosts many couples who elope to this well-known marriage town. The following information is provided as general guidance. However the Probate Court at the Charlton County Courthouse requires that you call them at 912-496-2230 to verify all procedures as they are subject to conditions and change.

Couples need to apply for a marriage license at the Charlton County Courthouse on Main Street. Licenses are issued between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (closed noon - 1:00 p.m.). No appointment is necessary. Both a current driver's license and social security card are necessary as proof of age (other proof of age documents must be approved by the clerk's office if one of these documents is not available). Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. In some cases, if this is a remarriage following a divorce, legal documentation of the divorce is needed in order to get the marriage license. The license cost is $26.00. Once the marriage license has been issued, the arrangments will be made with a magistrate or minister to perform the ceremony. The magistrate judge charges a $50.00 fee for the marriage, or a donation is given to the minister. Call the Judge of Probate Court at the courthouse at 912-496-2230 to verify all information.

The special includes roses, a complimentary bottle of champagne, and a $50 gift certificate to Marianne's (formerly Sterling's Southern Cafe) in St Marys GA.
